Highway 52 southbound detour postponed to Sept. 21 for 85th Street bridge repairs north of Rochester

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The detour planned for Highway 52 southbound north of Rochester is being postponed to Monday night, Sept. 21 because of rainy conditions on Saturday, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The Highway 52 southbound closure was scheduled for Sept. 19. Now, it will be occurring on Sept. 21 while crews pour concrete on the 85th Street bridge deck. The detour will begin at 7 p.m. on Sept. 21 and Highway 52 southbound will be closed overnight, reopening by 5 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22. The highway will open sooner if work is completed sooner. During the closure, a detour route would be in place. Northbound Highway 52 continues to remain open.

The southbound traffic detour route (JPG): From Highway 52 southbound, take Exit 64, turn left on Olmsted County Road 112/ 100th Street NW, turn right on Olmsted County Road 112/ 18th Avenue NW, turn right on Highway 63 (75th Street NW), then take the ramp to Highway 52.

Crews started the project on Aug. 20. The work is expected to be completed in October. A single lane closure on Highway 52 southbound at the 85th Street bridge will continue into October. One lane will remain open on 85th Street bridge the majority of the time. Traffic signals direct motorists across the bridge in a single lane.
