Completed project study
MnDOT completed a study to look at ways to improve access and traffic flow along a 3.2-mile stretch of Hwy 12 (Babcock Blvd.) in Delano. The study examined current and future traffic conditions and identified options to improve safety and efficiency.
Why the study was done
The Hwy 12 corridor in Delano has seen rapid growth, along with new commercial and residential development. As traffic increased, so did access challenges, truck traffic and crashes. The study was created to address these issues and support a safer, more efficient corridor.
Recommended design: Roundabout Alternative 2
This includes the following improvements on Hwy 12 between County Line Rd. and Bridge Ave.:
- A two-lane divided roadway
- 6-foot outside shoulder
- 14-foot through lane (one each way)
- 20-foot center median
- Intersection changes
- The Hwy 12 and 13th St. intersection would become a right-in/right-out, removing left turns and crossing movements
- Single-lane roundabouts at:
- Tiger Dr (7th St. S)
- Woodland Rd. (Co. Rd. 30)
- Bridge Ave.
- Additional intersections changed to right-in/right-out:
- Crow River Dr.
- Babcock Cir.
- Fifth St.
- Kelsey St.
- Rockford Ave.
