September 2025
Happy fall everyone! This is my favorite time of year when the weather gets a bit cooler, and the leaves start to change colors. It is also the busiest time for me and my family with kid’s activities and school starting again. I hope you all have a chance to get out and enjoy all that this time of year brings.
I would like to thank the residents of Brooklyn Center for hosting us at a driveway neighborhood meeting (September 16). We had a great turnout and conversation even though the weather was a bit warm! We are always open to suggestions about ways to interact with the public and this is just one example. If this sounds like something your neighborhood may be interested in, please let me know. If you have other suggestions on different ways we can engage, that would be great too.
We have been doing other engagement this month as well. This engagement builds upon work done last year to determine what improvements should be done on existing crossings of I-94 from Brooklyn Center to North Minneapolis.
We have some concepts developed and are taking those out for the public to comment. We were at Open Streets earlier this month, and visited two churches. We will also be discussing these concepts at our Coffee Chat on September 25 at V3 Soul Bowl from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and hope to attend some Minneapolis neighborhood association meetings as well.
You may have also seen some lawn signs with a QR code to take a survey about a potential bicycle/pedestrian bridge over I-94, at either 61st Ave. or 62nd Ave. For those that live south of I-694 in Brooklyn Center, there will also be a post card in the mail that you will receive soon.
We have also been working on local road safety improvements, specifically asking for public input on possible improvement to 85th Ave. and Brookdale Dr.
There is a lot of work continuing behind the scenes to get ready for the next phase of the environmental impact statement process. Thank you all for your willingness to talk with us and answer your questions about the environmental study.
Question of the month: Why is MnDOT proposing additional pedestrian bridges across I-94 without also considering the impacts of air quality?
MnDOT is proposing these links to reconnect to the community and all our system interchanges like the one at I-694, and Hwy 252/I-94. Interchanges create a big crossing barrier, so we're trying to mitigate that barrier and reconnect the community better. We do not expect people to linger on the bridges but rather use them as a tool to safely cross the road.
