Short-term ramp detour (Oct. 7), I-90 bridge opening (Oct. 8) planned at I-90/Highway 52 interchange

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Westbound Interstate 90 motorists who want to use the off-ramp to northbound Highway 52 will be briefly detoured from 2-4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7; the following day the I-90 westbound bridge over Highway 52 will reopen to traffic, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

On Wednesday, the off-ramp will be closed so crews can paint the road striping. The ramp will be closed from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Motorists detour 8 miles west to Exit 209B, go north on Highway 63 to Highway 52 in Rochester.

On Thursday, westbound motorists will begin traveling on the new westbound I-90 bridge over Highway 52. Crews demolished the old bridge earlier this year and replaced and lengthened the bridge. The opening of the bridge also allows MnDOT to remove the remaining detours at the interchange.

The project began in July of 2024 and is nearing completion. Remaining work includes rumble strips, pavement markings, and signs, including new overhead signs. There will be periodic lane closures on southbound Highway 52 as well as eastbound and westbound I-90 in the upcoming weeks.
