Highway 52/Lafayette Freeway closed this weekend for work on new pedestrian/bicycle bridge in South St. Paul

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Both directions of Highway 52 will close this weekend between Butler Avenue in South St. Paul and Concord/Cesar Chavez Blvd. in St. Paul for work on the new pedestrian/bicycle bridge crossing the highway in South St. Paul, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The road will close from
9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19th at 9 p.m., until 5 a.m. Sunday, Sept.20 so construction crews can pour concrete for the new bridge deck. The ramps from I-94 and I-494 to Highway 52 also will close along with the ramp from Plato Blvd /Fillmore Ave. to southbound Highway 52.

Once the bridge deck is poured, crews will build a new trail to connect to both sides of the bridge and reconstruct median barrier where the old bridge piers were located.
During the closure, traffic will detour on I-494, Highway 10/61 and I-94 to avoid the closure

Reconstruction and realignment of the aging pedestrian bridge began in early July and will be completed by late October. The new bridge alignment allows for improved ADA (Americans with Disabilities) access on the east side of bridge along Stickney Avenue.
