Portion of Highway 12 in Wayzata and Minnetonka to close two weekends, May 1-4 and May 8-11

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Highway 12 will close in both directions for two consecutive weekends between Central Avenue in Wayzata and Interstate 494 in Minnetonka on May 1-4 and May 8-11, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The closures will allow crews to make drainage repairs and to repair and resurface the road.

Both weekend closures will be from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

The detour for both closures is I-494 to Highway 55 to County Road 101 (PNG).

In addition to the weekend closures, residents near the Highway 12 project area should expect nighttime and overnight work through early May near County Road 112 (Wayzata Boulevard West) and between Central Avenue and Gleason Lake Road. This work is not anticipated to be excessively loud, but there will be normal construction noise.

All dates for the traffic impacts are tentative and weather dependent. All upcoming impacts, closures and detours will be shared on the project webpage once information becomes available.

About the Highway 12 project

Crews will rebuild, repair and resurface Highway 12 between Shoreline Drive (Country Road 15) in Wayzata and I-494 in Minnetonka. The project will result in lane reductions and several ramp closures. Construction is scheduled to be completed in November.

Portions of Highway 12 were built in the 1970s and the last significant pavement improvements were made in 2008. This project will give Highway 12 another 20-plus years of life and will ultimately benefit motorists, businesses and residents.

I-394 at Hopkins Crossroads — April 27 through early July

I-394 in St. Louis Park — through September

  • This project will add auxiliary lanes on I-394 — this type of lane gives motorists additional space and time to safely accelerate/decelerate to enter and exit I-394. As a result of this work, these closures will occur through September: the ramp from Louisiana Ave. to eastbound I-394; the ramp from eastbound I-394 to Xenia Ave./Park Pl.; and westbound Wayzata Blvd. between Louisiana Ave. and Zarthan Ave. Read more about this project: mndot.gov/metro/projects/i394stlouispark
