I-90 lane closures, traffic changes begin April 1 at Highway 52
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Westbound Interstate 90 motorists at Highway 52 southeast of Rochester will experience lane closures and traffic changes beginning April 1 as the interchange construction project resumes its third and final year, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Beginning April 1:
• Westbound I‑90 bridge closes until fall.
• Single-lane traffic for both directions of I‑90 begins in the eastbound lanes.
• Westbound I‑90 on‑ramp closes.
This work is in preparation for crews to replace the westbound I-90 bridge.
Bridge demolition, Hwy 52 detour starts April 6
Demolition work is scheduled April 6–10. MnDOT will announce a reminder in advance of this short-term detour. At that time these traffic changes will occur for four days:
- Both southbound and northbound Highway 52 are closed at I-90 and detoured from April 6-10:
- Southbound Highway 52 traffic detours at Rochester to Hwy 63 southbound to Stewartville and then to eastbound I-90.
- Motorists wanting to continue south on Highway 52 to Marion, Chatfield, Preston and other destinations will exit from I-90 eastbound at Exit 224, Eyota, and turn south on Olmsted County Road 7.
- Northbound Highway 52 south of Marion will detour onto Olmsted County Road 7 north of Chatfield, travel west on I-90 and exit to northbound Highway 52 exit, Exit 217, Rochester.
- Eastbound I‑90 traffic that wants to go northbound on Highway 52 will detour to the next exit, Exit 224, Eyota Hwy 42-CR 7, cross over the bridge and enter onto westbound I‑90 to reach the northbound Highway 52 exit, Exit 217, Rochester.
- I-90 westbound to southbound Highway 52 will use Exit 224, Eyota, and turn south on Olmsted County Road 7.
Highway 52 reopens after the bridge demolition. There will be additional short-term detours as the I-90 bridge construction takes place such as the placement of the beams, building and removal of the forms, pouring the concrete bridge deck. Those closures will be announced in advance.
