Westbound I-94 and southbound I-35E in St. Paul closed Sept. 26 weekend as part of bridge repair work project
St. Paul, Minn. –The Minnesota Department of Transportation is closing westbound I-94 between I-35E and John Ireland Blvd. in downtown St. Paul starting at 10 p.m. Friday, as well as southbound I-35E between University Ave. and 10th St. in downtown St. Paul, through 5 a.m. Monday, September 29. This work is a part of MnDOT’s ongoing project to repair nine bridges over I-94 and I-35E in St. Paul.
Weekend traffic on westbound I-94 will be directed from northbound I-35E to westbound Highway 36 to southbound Highway 280. Traffic on southbound I-35E will be directed eastbound on I-94 to southbound Highway 52 to I-494. View detour maps for the I-94 closure and I-35E closures.
This closure is in coordination with MnDOT’s I-94 bridge (Dartmouth Bridge) maintenance work. In addition, the Marion St. bridge over I-94 is anticipated to reopen to traffic on Friday, Sept. 26.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule dependent and subject to change. MnDOT encourages people traveling in and around downtown St. Paul to plan ahead and review closures, especially for high-traffic events. MnDOT also urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.
This project requires additional periodic weekend closures of I-94 and partial bridge closures to ensure proper maintenance of bridges along the interstates.
